20 St. Bernard puppies in Martigny
The end of March saw the Fondation Barry celebrate the arrival of two St. Bernard litters. The cuddly St. Bernard puppies can be visited at the Barryland – Musée et Chiens du Saint-Bernard in Martigny from 4 May to 4 June.
The short-haired bitch “Joy du Grand St.-Bernard” and short-haired dog “Zoltan du Grand St.-Bernard” became parents of nine lively little pups on 22 March 2017, whose names all begin with S. And just three days later on 25 March, eleven sweet little puppies (names beginning with T) were born of parents “Zaskia du Grand St.-Bernard” and “Jackson des Princes de Savoie”.
The first couple of weeks were quite a challenge for Joy, a first time mum, and she was glad when the animal keepers helped keep the pups in order when it came to allocating the teats! Zaskia, on the other hand, has been a mother before, so she’s not so easily flustered. There’s one thing they have in common, though: they look after their litters very well. The little rascals are growing fast, and you can follow their progress on our website http://fondation-barry.ch.
From 4 May, the St. Bernard puppies can be visited daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Barryland Museum in Martigny. On 4 June the puppies, each already weighing around 12 kg, will be leaving us to discover the world with their new owner-families.
“For us animal keepers it’s very hard to see the little rascals go, but luckily the new owners come back every so often or send us photos so we can follow their progress,” says Aurélie Schillaci, who has spent the last six weeks overseeing the puppies' development and training.
One of the highlights this year is the accompanied procession of 14 of our St. Bernard dogs up to the Great St. Bernard pass on 14 July 2017. Due to the very necessary refurbishment work which has had to be done – and is now finally finished – the summer season at the pass is starting around a month later than usual. Our St. Bernards must be looking forward to see which of them this year will be going to their summer residence, and who will accompany them. Anyone interested in joining the procession to the pass will find information at www.fondation-barry.ch.
Mountain pass walks with St. Bernards
Daily between 15 July and 17 September 2017 the Fondation Barry is offering visitors the chance to accompany the dogs on a 1½-hour walk in the mountains of the Great St. Bernard pass.
